Odor Control - RV Holding Tanks Application Problem:
The majority of effective odor control products marketed in the recreational
vehicle industry contains toxic ingredients that are harmful, even fatal,
if ingested or inhaled. Most of the products are merely masking agents
that cover up the offensive odors emitted by the holding tanks. Another
problem associated with the use of these chemicals is that many disposal/collection
sites for RV holding tank wastewater refuse to accept the effluent due
to high levels of toxicity. Market research revealed that the majority
of the consumers in the RV industry would prefer to use a natural, environmentally
friendly, product if the product proved to be effective at controlling
odors.
Solution:
Organic Products Company formulated a natural product using the Histosol
OP-9840 as the substrate and, by utilizing the same technology used in
the product formulations for the portable toilet industry, the new product
proved to be extremely effective in seven field trials. The recreational
vehicle holding tests revealed that this highly concentrated product could
be applied at a rate of 4 ounces per 40 gallon holding tank and still
achieve outstanding odor control results. Comparable products on the market
require an 8-ounce charge per 40 gallon holding tank. The "black
water" which is contained in the holding tank for the toilet, was
held for a period of five days in the test. The product controlled the
odors remarkably well.
Conclusion:
OPC's RV odor control product is a natural, effective alternative to the
hazardous chemicals currently being marketed in the recreational vehicle
industry. Harmless to human, animal, and marine life when used as directed,
this product provides a safe alternative for those consumers concerned
about the health of themselves and their families, as well as an overall
concern for the environment. With recommended application rates at one-half
the industry standard, the product is also cost-effective.
